David Sorin
David Sorin is President of Management Mpowerment Associates, a company providing leadership and organizational development, strategic planning and executive coaching to individuals and organizations of all sizes. David's true passion is working with entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial organizations, including law firms and healthcare related businesses and practices. His purpose is to help them overcome obstacles to achieve their potential and improve their results. Sorin works closely with individuals and organizations to bring about positive change through leadership development, emphasizing values, ethics and culture, seeking alignment between individuals and the organization and focusing on results. He pushes his clients to remain innovative and entrepreneurial in spirit in order to find and maintain a competitive edge in the rapidly-changing competitive marketplace.
David is also an attorney of thirty years and has been a business consultant to numerous companies, many in the special events industry. His experiences as an attorney representing startups and small business, combined with his many years starting and operating his own businesses, have given him a unique perspective. David has worked closely with numerous entrepreneurs, with whom he identifies strongly through his own entrepreneurial experiences. He has continuously displayed competencies in the areas of strategic thinking and planning, critical thinking, conflict management, team building, project management, communication and presentation and sales and marketing.
He has been a leader in the special events industry for twenty years in several capacities, including fourteen years as President and Founder of Current Events International, a lighting, audio and technical production company. David grew this company from a startup to an international company, with offices throughout the US, producing events of major significance. While in the event business, Sorin was involved in any number of major projects, among them the 1993 opening of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1996 Olympic Games, the 1992 and 1996 Clinton/Gore Presidential campaigns and Inaugurals and the 1996 Dole/Kemp campaign. He spearheaded his company's handling of seventy plus events for the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia and the technical production for the 2001 Bush/Cheney Inauguration. His political and corporate clients have taken him to more than twenty five states for events, as well as Canada, Europe and the Middle East.
David has been extremely dedicated to and involved in professional education, striving to create professionalism in whatever industry in which he has worked. He has written numerous magazine articles, and Sorin's book, "The Special Events Advisor: A Business and Legal Guide for Event Professionals" was published by John Wiley & Sons in late 2003. Further, David has developed an entire business curriculum for the events industry, and, in conjunction with Event Solutions Magazine, has produced a number of tele-seminars on a variety of business subjects, including contracts, marketing, sales and employer-employee relations. These seminars are forming the foundation of a library of business material for the meeting and event industry. David has served on the advisory boards of the two major event industry magazines, Special Events and Event Solutions.
He has been an active speaker in the special events industry, previously speaking at the 2006 IT&CMA/CTW Convention in Pattaya, Thailand, The Special Event (multiple occasions and most recently in January, 2005) , The Event Solutions Expo (multiple occasions, the last time being in August of 2006)), American Rental Association meetings, Industrial Fabric Association and Tent Rental Division meetings, ISES Conferences for Professional Development (multiple occasions) and Regional Education Conference, and before numerous local associations in several cities. He was also a guest speaker for the US Army at an international conference in Heidelberg, Germany. His speeches have covered topics such as "Motivating Your Employees", "Employer-Employee Relations", "Ethics, Values and Company Culture", "Contracts to Protect Your Business", "Starting Your Own Company", "Growing Your Business", "Turning Leads into Sales", "Creating a Marketing Plan for Your Business", "Special Events as a Marketing Tool", "Ethics in Special Events", "Running Your Events Business as a Business", "Working with Labor Unions", "What Makes a Site Event Friendly" as well as numerous lighting and technical areas. He has also been a guest lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, talking on various aspects of entrepreneurialism. He has also taught review classes for the CSEP exam in the areas of risk management and law.
Sorin's seminars, The Road to Business Success, are geared toward entrepreneurs seeking to build the competencies necessary to function in an entrepreneurial environment, and his Entrepreneurial Obstacle CourseT is a unique tool he has developed to initiate strategic thinking in his clients to help them achieve greater success.
As a business consultant and attorney, he has recently worked extensively in Europe, China and Thailand, on a variety of projects. He has worked with a medical web company developing CME content for Chinese professionals, a media company, and an importing firm, among others. David continues to utilize his experiences to engage entrepreneurs in focusing on the important issues in their businesses.
David is currently on the Board of Directors of the Main Line Chamber of Commerce, as well as Co-Chair of its Government Affairs Committee; a member of the Chester County Board of the Southeastern PA Chapter of the Red Cross; Vice Chairman of the Board of SEPAC, a political action committee dedicated to electing pro-business candidates to office in Pennsylvania and a member of the Pennsylvania Health Lawyers Association.
